ETHDenver 2024
The world's largest Web3 event, profitable for the first time in its history
The problem
ETHDenver is the largest open-source technology event in the world, 22,000 attendees from 115 countries, but it had lost money for seven consecutive years. The community culture that made it special was also making it ungovernable.
What I did
As Chief of Staff for SporkDAO, the member-owned Colorado cooperative that runs the event, I implemented financial controls, KPI tracking, and governance while deliberately preserving the community culture. That meant transparency systems the board and 20,000+ members could actually read, renegotiated contracts and partnerships across a $6M budget, and direct coordination with the Colorado Governor's office.
Impact
The 2024 event closed with a $1.3M surplus, the first profitable year in the event's history, with an NPS of 59.6.
